The Poetry Competition
WriteOutLoud is a website bringing people to poetry, with over 45000 users and experience of running competitions. Entries open on 21st March and close on 21st June, for shortlisting by a panel of experts, with the shortlist being judged by nationally-celebrated poet Brian Patten.
Milestones are not just those quirky lumps of rock or cast iron sitting quietly by the wayside, marking a path into the past, they are also markers on our own timelines, major events.... Write a poem about one or more of them, either literally or figuratively.
The first prize is £500, with runners up £100 and £25. There will also be a prize of £100 for the best under-16 entry. All the winners and commended entries will receive an anthology of the short listed poems.
The entries will be judged in early August and prize winners notified; the overall winner will be invited to read their poem at the Milestone Society Annual Conference at Long Compton Hall in Warwickshire, on Saturday 7th October 2017.
For full details of the competition and how to enter, as well as some 'guidance' from judge Brian Patten, see WriteOutLoud's website.
Happy writing, and good luck!
